Byzantium Jewellery can be seen at our new shop - which is actually 400 years old!
Renovation work has now been completed on
the building, and in
the course of laying a new floor, a few old artefacts have been found. Several (broken, unfortunately) clay pipes, known as
churchwarden pipes, have been found, which are difficult to date as they were
made from about 1600 to about 1900, differing only slightly in shape. They were
unused, so the information that the shop was once a tobacconists is probably
true.
We also found quite a few bones, probably not
human! We will ask some archaeologists to check for us.
The shop was opened 17 December 2005
